Planete 21
In the current environment of the Internet and the multiplication of its services, the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation has been considering whether this media could be adapted for use by mentally handicapped people.
A study has therefore been conducted with the people concerned, their families and educators, doctors and psychologists, on the desirability or otherwise of establishing a site adapted for their use.
In fact, until now, no web site has been specifically dedicated to trisomic and mentally deficient youngsters and adults.
Since the internet is such an ideal tool for exchanging information free from any prejudice, because knowing how to use the Internet has become a sign of integration in our society, and because the Web provides a limitless communication forum, the Fondation Jérôme Lejeune considers that it is important to bring all these benefits within the reach of the mentally deficient.
Planete 21 web-site has there fore been designed with the contribution of trisomic and mentally deficient youngsters and adults, parents, educators, doctors and psychologists. It is intended that it should be a launch-pad for discovering and learning how to use the Internet.
The contents of Planete 21 is developed by the people concerned as well as by school teams in order to ensure that the information provided best satisfies the expectations and needs of these mentally deficient youngsters and adults.
The 1st Web-site designed for use by mentally deficient people : Planete 21
is both recreational and educational. It is a site for obtaining information (news, case studies), communication (forums, e-mail), entertainment (games, travelogues…) and learning how to "surf" the Web.
The forum enables young English-speakers to come and discuss ! See you soon at Planete 21. "
